INTRODUCTION



Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) established in Bangkok on 8th August 1967. At first, ASEAN members started with only 5 members which are Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. There are 2 main objectives of ASEAN which been stated in the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration 1967). The first objective is to accelerate the economic growth, social progress and the cultural development in the region. Secondly, to promote the regional peace and stability. Through these objectives, ASEAN nowadays have 5 new members which are Brunei Darussalam joined on 8th January 1984, Vietnam on 28th 1995, Laos and Myanmar both on 23rd July 1997, lastly Cambodia on 30th April 1999.
