The 40th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting

The ASEAN Ministerial Meeting (AMM) is a meeting where the ASEAN Foreign Minister will meet and discuss the ASEAN member countries issues. The meeting will be conduct on July every year. Each ASEAN member countries will be host of the ASEAN Summit according the alphabetical rotation basis. The 40th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting (AMM) this year hold at the Philippine International Convention Center in Manila, Philippine. The Philippines this year is the chairman of the ASEAN Standing Committee for the 40th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting (AMM), Post-Ministerial Conference (PMC) and the 14th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).

This yearly meeting started on 22nd July 2007 until 2nd August 2007 consists of 27 countries. The 27 countries are the 10 ASEAN members; Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Also joining in, the ASEAN dialogue partners; Australia, Canada, China, European Union, India, Japan, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Russia and the United States of America. Apart from that, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Mongolia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka also join in as observer.

The AMM become one of the tools where the Foreign Minister of ASEAN member countries evaluate issues of major interest within ASEAN and discuss about the regional issues as well as the international issues that affecting the region. Before the AMM starts, the ASEAN Senior Officials and the Directors-General will conduct several series of preparatory meetings. This year, the chairman which is the Philippines, will follow-up on the instruction given during the 12th ASEAN Summit and the other related summit which being held in Cebu, Philippines on 12th until 15th January 2007. At the end of the AMM, the Philippines will pass their chairmanship of ASEAN to Singapore as the next chairman of the AMM.
